It is 7:30am and I am at Lakeside Beach. It is calm and extremely cold. I do my swim and when I get out of the water, I run up the beach to where I can lean against a bench to clean the sand off my feet and put on my water shoes. The sand has frost on it, so when I run with freezing cold feet, it feels like someone has tried to exfoliate the bottoms of my feet with 60 grit sandpaper. But here is a bit of good news – a great reason for being over 50 years old. If you have been reading my posts, you know that I am most concerned about the swimming event and getting finished in the 30 minute time allotment. Well, we begin in waves, according to your age group. The oldest group, 50-59 years old (my age group) begins first and then each wave starts five minutes later, six waves in all. They don’t start the time clock until the last wave begins. Do you know what that means? I get an additional 25 minutes to swim before the clock even begins. I am a happy Iron Girl! Until next time,

I knew there was a reason I wasn’t out there training like a maniac with you (besides that fact that I haven’t one ounce of competitive spirit in me and I don’t really enjoy exercise) – if the oldest group is 50 – 59 – I’m therefore not allowed to compete! Being an old fart has its benefits. Train on honey!!!

I was actually surprised that the 50-59 age group is the oldest because on the official Iron Girl site they show three older age groups! Love ya, I.C.
